Description

Nos 206A and 208 to 220 on Brixton Road, built in the early 19th century, form a terrace of three-storey houses with attics and basements, each featuring two windows. The buildings are constructed of stock brick and have parapet fronts topped with slated mansard roofs that include dormers. The sash windows, which mostly have glazing bars or margin lights, are adorned with gauged flat brick arches. The first-floor windows are long and have patterned cast iron balconies. The ground floor windows feature patterned stucco tympana beneath elliptical gauged brick arches. Access to the doors, which have three decorative panels, is via five steps. The doors are flanked by attached fluted columns, topped with a cornice head, and have plain fanlights set under round gauged brick arches. Original wrought iron handrails are present. No 206A has a first-floor cill band and a rounded projection at the dividing wall. Nos 208 to 214 feature a cornice and blocking course, while No 220 has lost its first-floor balconies and has an altered projecting early 20th-century shop on the ground floor. The entrance is located on the left return and consists of a four-panel door with a cornice head and plain fanlight. This terrace is included for its group value.
