Description
No. 188 on Brixton Road, dating from the early to mid-19th century, is one of a former pair of buildings. It stands three storeys tall, with an attic and basement, featuring two windows on the main façade. To the left, there is a two-storey entrance extension with one window, and a further lower two-storey coach-house extension. The building is constructed of painted stock brick, accented with stuccoed bands, a cornice, and a parapet. The tall mansard roof is slated and includes round-arched dormers. All windows have gauged brick arches; the majority are sash windows, except for the long casements on the first floor that lead to patterned cast iron balconies. The ground floor windows are round-headed. Access to the door, which has six beaded panels, a reeded heel, and a radial fanlight, is via five steps with a cast iron handrail, all beneath a round gauged brick arch. The upper coach-house window is a tripartite sash with glazing bars.
