Description

These are a well-crafted pair of houses, dated 1822 and known as Bedford Buildings, situated on the south side of Clapham Park Road. They are three storeys high with a basement, each containing two windows. The outer window is set back within a recessed entrance bay. The building's construction is of stock brick, accentuated by a stone cornice and blocking course. Bands of brick mark the ground and first floor levels of the main block. The sash windows are set within stucco-lined reveals and are topped with finely gauged brick arches. The ground-floor windows are situated within wide, elliptical arched recesses. The front doors are four-panel affairs, flanked by Doric half-columns and topped with a large fanlight. A flight of nine stone steps, with wrought iron handrails, leads to the main entrance.
