Description
Numbers 126-152 (even) and attached railings are a group of seven pairs of semi-detached villas, likely built around 1850. They are constructed of brown and yellow stock brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco on the ground floors and dressings. The roofs are hipped, covered in tile, artificial slate, and Welsh slate, with projecting eaves and brick centre stacks. The design follows a side-hall entrance plan.
Each pair of villas is three storeys high with an attic, featuring two windows per front, plus deeply-recessed, linked entrance bays on the ground floor which provide access. The ground floor has round-arched openings, most with architraves, leading to panelled doorways (replacement doors are present in all but numbers 126 and 134). Fanlights are above the doors, although that at number 152 has been altered. A stucco cornice tops all of the doorways. Numbers 128, 136, 138, 140, 142, 146, and 150 retain their original balustrades over the entrance bays; the others have various 20th-century additions to the upper floors.
The ground floor windows are 6/6 sashes with curved and radial glazing bars and architraves, linked by impost bands, and feature cast-iron window guards. The upper brick floors have stucco quoins, architraves, and a first-floor sill band. The first floor has full-length 6/6 sashes with console-bracketed cornices and iron balcony railings (the railings at number 150 are missing). The second floor also has 6/6 sashes. Windows at numbers 138, 142 and 152 have been replaced with 20th-century sashes. Number 146 is the most original of the terrace, retaining all original architraves and the balustrade above the entrance. Attached railings are also present.
