Description

Numbers 18 and 20 Belitha Villas are a pair of semi-detached villas built around 1845. They are constructed of yellow and brown stock bricks in a Flemish bond pattern, with a stucco ground floor and dressings. The roof is slate, hipped, with projecting eaves and central stacks.

The villas have a side-hall entrance plan and a basement and attic. Each has two windows, with a narrower, one-window recessed entrance bay. The ground floor is stuccoed and banded. Steps lead up to prostyle Ionic porticoes in the outer bays, each with doorways featuring pilaster jambs, a corniced head, an original two-panelled door and a rectangular overlight. The ground floor windows are 8/8 sashes. A stucco band marks the first floor. Full-height stucco pilasters articulate the upper floor of the inner bay. The first-floor windows have architraves and consist of 8/8 sashes to the inner bay and 6/6 sashes to the entrance bay, all with console bracketed cornices. Attic windows are 4/8 and 2/2 sashes. A plain stucco frieze is present, supported by brackets. Attached railings in a Gothic pattern are also part of the listing.
