Description
Semi-detached villas, built around 1845. The houses are constructed of yellow and brown stock bricks laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with a stucco finish to the ground floor and decorative dressings. They have a Welsh slate hipped roof with projecting eaves and central stacks. The design incorporates a side-hall entrance and staircase layout.
The villas are two storeys high, plus a basement and attic, and each has two windows, with a narrower, recessed one-window entrance bay. The ground floor is rusticated with stucco. Steps lead to a prostyle Ionic portico in the outer bay, which features a doorway with pilaster jambs and a corniced head. The doorway has an original two-panelled door and a rectangular overlight. The ground-floor windows are 4/4 sash windows with margin lights and cast-iron window guards in a Rococo style. A stucco band marks the first floor. Recessed panels and two-storey full-height stucco pilasters articulate the upper floor of the inner bay. The upper-floor windows are architraved sashes: the inner bay has 4/4 sash windows with margin lights, while the entrance bay has 6/6 sash windows. All upper-floor windows feature a rosetted, console-bracketed cornice. The attic windows are 4/4 sashes with margin lights. The houses have a moulded stucco frieze and cornice. Attached railings enhance the properties.
