Description

Numbers 14 and 16 Belitha Villas are a pair of semi-detached villas dating from circa 1845. They are constructed of yellow and brown stock bricks in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco dressings, and have a Welsh slate hipped roof. The roof features coupled brackets to the overhanging eaves and centre stacks. The design incorporates a side-hall entrance plan with a staircase. The properties are two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and each has two windows, including a narrower, one-window recessed entrance bay. Three-storey full-height brick pilasters articulate the inner bay. A prostyle Ionic portico is present in the outer bay, leading to a doorway with pilaster jambs carrying a corniced head, an original two-panelled door, and a rectangular overlight. Sashes are set within gauged-brick flat arches. The ground-floor windows are 2/2 sashes with margin lights, set in gauged-brick elliptical-arched recesses linked by stucco impost bands. Original cast-iron window guards in a palmette pattern are present on the ground-floor sashes. Stucco sill bands are visible to the upper storeys. The first-floor windows are full-length sashes, with 8/2 and 1/1 proportions to Number 14 and 8/8 and 6/6 proportions to Number 16. The attic windows have 3/6 sashes to the entrance bay and 4/8 sashes to the inner bay. Attached railings in a Gothic pattern complete the composition.
