Description

Numbers 25 to 47 (odd) and attached railings form a sloped terrace of semi-detached villas, built around 1845. The construction uses yellow stock bricks laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with a stucco ground floor that is lined to resemble stone and stucco dressings elsewhere. The roof is slated and hipped, with projecting eaves and brick stacks. The buildings are arranged with a side-hall entrance plan incorporating a staircase. The style is Neoclassical.

The terrace is three storeys high, with two windows in each villa, plus an additional window to the first floor over the entrance bay, although the design and detail of this feature is irregular and many were likely added in the late 19th or early 20th century. Full-height stucco pilasters are present on the upper floors, these supporting an entablature with a projecting eaves cornice. Number 41 has undergone crude alterations resulting in the removal of original details, while number 45 has 20th-century pilasters with capitals and bases removed. Steps lead to paired recessed entrances in the outer bays; these entrances have moulded cornices and are separated by stylised rounded pilasters topped with a patera. Numbers 25 and 47 have different entrance designs, supported by plain piers. Doorways feature flanking pilasters supporting a corniced head, a rectangular overlight (number 27 has margin lights), and original four- and six-panelled doors. The end houses have double entry doors. The windows are predominantly 6/6 sashes, although numbers 25, 29, 31, and 47 have 20th-century replacements. There are 1/1 sashes to the ground and first floors of numbers 25 and to the first floors of numbers 29 and 47. The second floors of numbers 29, 31 and 47 have 2/2 sashes, while numbers 25, 35, and 43 have 4/4 sashes. All upper windows have gauged brick flat arches. A stucco storey band sits below the first floor, and the sashes here have cast iron window guards in a floral pattern. The stucco entablature features a plain band and a projecting cornice. Original tile walkway and porch flooring are visible at number 33. Attached iron railings are present at numbers 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39, 41, and 43.
