Description

This is a terrace of five houses located at 28-38 Lamb's Conduit Street, built between 1690 and 1700. Number 28 was constructed under a lease granted to Nicholas Barbon in 1686. The terrace was refronted in the early 19th century. Number 38 was rebuilt in the 20th century above ground floor level but is included for its group value. The buildings are made of yellow stock brick with stone-coped parapets and stand four storeys tall. Most houses have two windows, except for numbers 28 and 38, which have three. Number 28 features a 19th-century shopfront, while the others have been altered to varying degrees in the 20th century. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and the first floors of numbers 34 and 36 are set in shallow round-arched recesses. The rear elevations are made of plum stocks with bands and flush-framed ash windows.

The interiors have not been inspected, but numbers 28 and 36 are noted to retain original staircases. The staircase in number 28 is possibly late 17th century, featuring heavy turned balusters and a closed string, while number 36 has twist balusters and carved tread ends. Some of the rooms are panelled.
