Description
Numbers 20-40 on Falmouth Road are a row of 11 terraced houses built between 1835 and 1841. They are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with lintels and arches made of gauged brick, and feature painted stucco dressings. The roofs are parapeted.
The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement, with each house having two windows. The flat-arched entrances have four-panel doors set in round-arched recesses, some of which include overlights with decorative glazing bars. The entrances are flanked by Tuscan half antae, and the entrances to numbers 32 and 34 are paired. Each entrance has a round-arched window to its side. The first-floor windows are flat-arched and, like those in numbers 4, 10, 12, and 18, are set in segmental-arched recesses. There is a sill band at the first floor, and the windows feature 6x6 sashes that are of an authentic design.
The interior has not been inspected. The area also includes railings, and numbers 4-40 on Falmouth Road form a cohesive group originally known as Taunton Place and Queen's Terrace, with the latter name corresponding to the southern part of the surviving row. The terraces were renamed Brunswick Street in 1851-2 and Falmouth Road in 1867.
