Description
13 Rugby Street is a terraced house that dates back to around 1721 and has been altered over time. It features brown brick with red brick dressings and stands four storeys high with a cellar. The building has three windows and includes a mid-19th century wooden shopfront. This shopfront has pilasters that support a dentil entablature, which is flanked by foliated consoles with lion masks. The shopfront is adorned with dark blue tiles, and there is a panel of white tiles with blue lettering that reads "Dairy" on the riser.
Both the house and shop doorways have rectangular overlights and panelled doors, with the shop door being part-glazed. Above the shop, there is a stucco strip and a sill band at the first floor. The windows have gauged red brick flat arches and recessed two-pane sashes. The parapet has been rebuilt.
Inside, some rooms feature panelling, and beneath the floor of the rear extension, there is a rectangular conduit chamber. A plaque on the front of the shop notes that "In the rear is the White Conduit (circa 1300)," which was originally part of the water supply to the Greyfriars Monastery on Newgate Street.
