Description

Numbers 37 to 45 are a group of five terraced houses, likely dating from around 1777 to 1778, and subsequently altered. They are constructed of yellow stock brick, with some later patching visible. The houses are four storeys high with basements, each featuring three windows. The windows are recessed and have flat arches constructed of gauged brick, some of which have been reddened. The upper floors are topped by parapets.

Number 37 has a rusticated ground floor and an architraved panel on the first floor. The first and second floors have been tuck-pointed. The ground floor features round-arched openings. The doorway has pilaster-jambs supporting an entablature above the doorhead, a patterned fanlight, and double doors. Attached cast-iron railings, including fleur-de-lys finials, are present to the areas flanking the entrance.

Number 39 has a 20th-century cement front, with a moulded string course at the first floor and an entablature at the third floor. It now has a 20th-century commercial ground floor frontage, featuring a square-headed doorway with a fanlight and a panelled door. Attached cast-iron railings are present to the area.

Number 41 retains an original round-headed doorway with stucco decorative dressings. The impost blocks are decorated with paterae, and the keystone is ornamented with a head. It also has a fanlight and a panelled door. A stucco sill band runs along the first floor. Attached cast-iron railings with torch flambe finials are incorporated into the area.

Numbers 43 and 45 have 20th-century restaurant ground floor frontages. Both properties feature a stucco sill band at the first floor, and Number 45 has a central first-floor sash window that has been elongated. The interiors of the properties have not been inspected.
