Description
No. 4 Hospital Road is a house that dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with an early 17th century core. The front is made of painted brick, while part of the structure is timber-framed. The roof has a shallow pitch with slates and a steeper pitch with double Roman tiles. The house has two storeys and a cellar, with an attic in part of the building. At the west end, there is a complex chimney stack with shafts set diagonally on a rectangular base.
There are two sash windows on each storey, all with 16 panes in flush cased frames, although the western pair is set at a lower level. Above the end doorway, there is a plain blank panel. The doorway features panelled reveals, plain wood pilasters, a moulded frieze, and a pediment. The entrance has a six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed, accessed by three stone steps. The interior has not been inspected.
