Description
Estate cottages numbers 99 and 100 were built around 1840, possibly designed by Anthony Salvin, who worked at Helmingham Hall around 1841. The cottages are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring a moulded brick stack on the party wall. They have pantile roofs with decorative vergeboards on the gable-facing half dormers and gabled returns. The buildings are two storeys high with an outshut at the rear. They are bilaterally symmetrical, with windows on either side of the party wall and entrances in the outer sections, all under four-centred arches. The doors are of an original design, and number 100 has a ground-floor casement window that is also original. The cottages exhibit a picturesque style that blends vernacular forms with elements of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Cottages 97-110, which span the boundary between Framsden and Helmingham, form a cohesive group.
