Description
Estate Cottages, numbers 103 and 104, are a pair of cottages built around 1840, possibly designed by Anthony Salvin, who worked at Helmingham Hall around 1841. The cottages are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring a moulded brick stack on the party wall. They have pantile roofs with gables and half dormers, ornamental vergeboards on the large gables, and roofs with slightly swept eaves. The buildings are two storeys high with an outshut at the rear. The left unit has a slightly projecting gable facing the street, with a first-floor window of authentic design. The right unit has a single dormer. The entrances are located under four-centred arches in the outer ranges, with doors that are of original design. The ground-floor window of number 104 has casements that are also of original design. The cottages exhibit a picturesque style that blends vernacular forms with elements of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Cottages 97-110, which span the boundary between Framsden and Helmingham, form a cohesive group.
