Description
Estate Cottages, numbers 109 and 110, are a pair of cottages built around 1840, possibly designed by Anthony Salvin, who worked at Helmingham Hall around 1841. They are constructed of brick in Flemish bond and feature a moulded brick stack on the party wall. The cottages have pantile roofs with ornamented vergeboards on the dormers and gables, and the eaves are slightly swept. They are two storeys high and have an outshut at the rear. The entrances are located under four-centred arches on the outer ranges, with the right unit slightly projecting and gable facing, while the left unit has a half dormer. The ground-floor window of number 110 has a casement of an authentic design. The cottages exhibit a picturesque style that combines vernacular forms with elements of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Numbers 97-110, which span the boundary between Framsden and Helmingham, form a cohesive group.
