Description
Estate Cottages, numbers 101 and 102, are a pair of cottages built around 1840, possibly designed by Anthony Salvin, who was active at Helmingham Hall around 1841. They are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring a moulded brick stack on the party wall. The cottages have pantile roofs with ornamental vergeboards on the facing gables, which are paired at the party wall and slightly project, along with slightly swept eaves. The buildings are two storeys high and have an outshut at the rear. The entrances to the outer ranges are under four-centred arches, with doors that are of an original design. The first-floor windows have casements that are also of an original design. The cottages exhibit a picturesque style that blends vernacular forms with elements of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Cottages numbered 97 to 110, which span the boundary between Framsden and Helmingham, form a group with these cottages.
