Description
Estate Cottages numbers 140 and 141 are a pair of cottages built around 1840, possibly designed by Anthony Salvin, who was active at Helmingham Hall around 1841. They are constructed of brick in Flemish bond with a moulded brick stack on the party wall. The cottages feature pantile roofs with ornamental bargeboards on the projecting gable ends flanking the party wall, and the roofs have swept eaves. The buildings are two storeys high with an outshut at the rear. The entrances are located under four-centred arches on the outer ranges, and the doors are of an original design. The windows have casements that are also of an authentic design. The cottages exhibit a picturesque style that combines vernacular forms with elements of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Cottages 135-143 and the Church form a group.
