Description
Nos. 124, 125, and 126 on Jockeys Lane are a terrace of three cottages that were originally built in the mid to late 16th century as one house. They underwent remodelling in the 19th century and are one storey high with attics. The original layout was a three-cell cross-entry plan. The cottages are timber-framed and plastered, with the front walls of Nos. 124 and 125 encased in 19th-century red brick, which is now painted. The roof is pantiled and dates from the 19th century, featuring gabled casement dormers. There is a central 17th-century chimney made of red brick. The windows are 19th-century casements, and the entrance doors are boarded, with No. 125 having its entrance door located at the cross-entry position. A continuous rear outshut was added in the 19th century. Inside, the hall and parlour (Nos. 125 and 126) retain good closely-set chamfered exposed 16th-century floor joists, with some close-studding visible. There are large blocked open fireplaces, but much of the framing is mainly concealed.
