Description

A pair of estate cottages dating from around 1840, possibly designed by Anthony Salvin, who was working at Helmingham Hall around 1841. The cottages are built of brick in a distinctive Flemish bond, with a moulded brick stack on the party wall. They have a pantile roof with vergeboards to the gables and a pair of half dormers, featuring swept eaves. The cottages are single-storied, with an outshut at the rear. The entrances, located on the outer ranges, have four-centred arches, and the doors are of an original design. Casement windows of an original design are present in number 143. The cottages are built in a picturesque style, combining local vernacular features with elements of the 'cottage orne' tradition. Cottages 135 to 143, along with the church, form a notable group.
