Description
This is a small barn or stable located immediately south of another building in Hoxne Heckfield Green, Denham. It dates from the late 17th century and features a timber frame that is plastered and tarred, topped with a thatched roof. The barn has one small slatted ventilation opening and two boarded doors, one of which is a stable door. There is a later lean-to addition made of clay lump against the east gable end, which is also tarred and has a pantiled roof. On the opposite gable end, there is a larger pantiled lean-to that has been used as a garage. The barn's frame includes straight primary braces and a clasped-purlin roof, with most components made of thin scantling. This attractive building enhances the setting of the adjacent house and is included for its group value.
