Description
37 Heckfield Green is a house that was formerly a pair of cottages, believed to have been converted from the stable block of the nearby public house, now known as The Retreat. The building has an 18th-century core and a mid-19th-century facade. It is timber framed, with a facade of colourwashed brick and the rest plastered, topped by a thatched roof. The house is one and a half storeys high and features two mid to late 19th-century three-light casement windows set under cambered arches. There are two gabled dormers, each with matching two-light windows. On the right side, there is a doorway with a 20th-century two-panelled door, while the corresponding doorway on the left has been bricked up. A central ridge stack is present, and there is evidence of the 18th-century core inside, which includes a pegged oak frame. The building is included for its group value.
