Description

This is an 18th-century barn located at Little Denmead Farm. It is timber-framed and clad in weatherboarding, with a brick plinth. The roof is hipped and was originally thatched, but is now covered in corrugated iron sheeting. The barn has four bays.

On the west side, there are full-height waggon doors. To the east is a hipped cart entrance, likely a later addition, as the timbers are smaller than those of the main barn and bear graffiti dated 1837. Some original weatherboarding with handmade nails remains under the 19th-century outshuts on either side of the cart entrance.

The interior wallframe features jowled posts and a midrail with diagonal bracing. The roof is an angled queenstrut roof with pegged rafters. The barn is substantially intact and groups well with Little Denmead Farmhouse, reflecting periods of refurbishment to the farmhouse.
