Description
Barn Cottage is a 16th-century cottage with a three-bay timber frame. It features early 19th-century cladding and a late 20th-century extension to the west. The walls are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with some exposed timber framing and sections of flint walling. The cottage has a thatched roof that is hipped at the east end and has a low eaves above an outshot, while the rest of the roof is half-hipped with eyebrow dormers. The rear outshot has a tiled roof. The south front elevation consists of one storey and an attic, with three windows featuring casements. There is a plain door located beneath a thatched canopy supported by posts. Inside, the framework suggests that the building originated as a smoke-bay house, which has since been modified to include an inserted chimney.
