Description

SU 24 NE KIMPTON LITTLE SHODDESDON

1/2 The Cottage

Cottage. Of C16 origin, with early C19 re-cladding. Flint and thatch. South elevation of 1 storey and attic, 2 above 4 windows (one a former doorway). ½- hipped roof, with eaves raised above the upper windows. Flint walls with brick quoins. Casements. C20 entrance at the west end. Within, there exists framing which suggests an origin as a late-medieval 2-bay hall, with a large fireplace attached at the west end when a 1st floor was inserted: a further timber framed bay was added at the west end, and the 3 bay unit afterwards re-clad. To the rear is attached a late C20 extension in the form of a timber frame, with panels glazed on the south side.
