Description
Hartsfield and Gate Piers, formerly known as Fairholme, is a house built around 1700, with a front added in the mid-18th century and late 19th-century service wings. The front wall features blue header brickwork, with red brick quoins and vertical bands, a first floor and eaves band, rubbed flat arches, and Flemish bond below the cill level. The other walls are constructed in Flemish Garden Wall bond with cambered openings and have brick dentil eaves. The roof is hipped and covered with tiles. The symmetrical south front has two storeys and two windows, with sashes set in exposed frames. There is a plain classical doorcase, which was repaired in the 20th century, featuring panelled reveals and a five-panelled door (one panel is glazed), accessed by two stone steps. In front of the house, there is a pair of gate piers made of knapped flintwork with fine galletting, brick quoins, and plain stone caps.
