Description
This barn, located 10 meters west of Starhouse Farmhouse, dates from the 18th century. It features about eight bays and has two gabled porches on the west side. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, standing on a tall plinth of red brick. The roof is clad in corrugated iron and was formerly thatched, with a hipped design at the north end. There are two sets of barn doors located in the east and west walls. The barn showcases good framing with primary-braced studding and open trusses, which include some well-cut arch-braces and post heads that have a medieval appearance. Some of the trusses have bolted knees instead of braces. The roof structure consists of a two-tier butt-purlin system, with the purlins mainly having a triangular section.
