Description
The building is a former oast house that has been converted into a garage and store in the 20th century. It has a core that dates back to the 17th century or early 18th century, with possible alterations made in the 19th century. The exterior is made of red brick and was plastered in the 20th century. The roof is pantiled and features twin pyramid-shaped flues that are slated. The south wall has boarded garage doors added in the 20th century. The structure was originally designed with two cells, and a large opening was later created in the dividing wall. A floor that was once suspended about 1.5 meters above ground level has been removed, but the large square tiles, which have a grid of small holes, are now part of the current floor. There is an elliptical-headed opening into the lower chamber on the north wall, which is now blocked. The roof is well-crafted with oak framing and two tiers of butt purlins, typical of the late 17th century or 18th century, although it has been altered to accommodate the later plastered flues.
