Description
Hunters Lodge is a house dating from around 1570. Originally designed in a three-cell cross entry layout, the service cell on the left has been replaced by a 19th-century lean-to extension. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring a timber-framed and plastered structure with a thatched roof and an original axial chimney made of gault brick. The windows are 20th-century casements, with those on the ground floor including transoms and most having leaded lights. The entrance door, located in the extension to the left, is boarded and battened and also from the 20th century. Inside, there is good unmoulded framing visible, including tension-braced close studding and a diamond mullioned window in one of the chambers. The hall and parlour contain wide lintelled original back-to-back fireplaces. The first-floor joists are chamfered and laid flat. There is an elliptical arched doorway, part of a pair, that leads to the now-missing service rooms. The roof features clasped purlins.
