Description

The Grange is a former rectory located on Onehouse Forest Road. It primarily dates from the late 16th century, with parts of the structure originating from the mid-16th century. The building underwent remodelling in the late 18th century and features a three-cell plan with a lobby entrance. It stands two storeys tall with attics and is constructed from timber framing and plaster, topped with a thatched roof that includes a gabled thatched casement dormer from the 17th or 18th century.

The building has axial chimneys made of late 18th or early 19th century gault brick. It showcases good mid and late 18th century windows with renewed leaded glazing, including cross-casements. To the right of the entrance, there is a splayed bay window from the late 18th century, which has a hipped leaded roof and a moulded eaves cornice. Above this bay window is a splayed oriel of similar age. At the centre of the façade, there is a second oriel with curved sides, while the left gable features a two-storey flat-roofed splayed bay, also dating to the late 18th century.

The entrance porch is gabled and thatched, with a mid-20th century panelled door. Inside, to the right of the entrance, there is a room with mid-16th century plain framing and an inserted late 16th century window that has chamfered square mullions. The rest of the main range, dating around 1600, exhibits plain framing with good close studding and a clasped purlin roof. Additionally, a small parlour wing at the rear left, which is of similar date, features on-edge floor joists.
