Description

The barn, located on the north side of Main Street in Thimbleby, dates to the 17th century. It is a timber-framed building with a brick base, originally thatched but now topped with a corrugated iron hipped roof. The barn is single-storied and comprises five structural bays, with the central bay wider and containing a planked stable door. The main timber stud posts are exposed externally, resting on padstones. Inside, two of the central studs feature roll moulding up to halfway and are arch-braced to the tie beams; a remnant of a wall arch brace is visible, and the end wall contains two arch braces and the remains of a mid rail. The oak roof structure features clasped purlins and collars.
