Description
Church Cottage is a cottage that dates back to the 16th century, with additions and alterations from the 17th and 19th centuries. It features a mud and stud construction underbuilt in white painted brick, with pantile roofs, the left side of which is steeply pitched. The building has a single storey with garrets and a six-bay front. The left bay is clearly timber framed, consisting of two structural bays, with visible padstones at the corners and in the centre, and the rendered positions of the corner and bay posts can be seen. The three bays to the right are a 19th-century addition. There is an off-centre 19th-century planked door with a small plain fixed light to the right, and to the left are four similar windows. Inside, there is a chamfered beam with triangular stops. In the 19th century, the end range was used as stables for the adjacent Old Hall Cottage.
