Description

Grange Farm Cottage is a cottage that dates back to the 16th century, with some parts underbuilt in the 17th century and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features red brick and mud and stud construction, which is plastered and whitewashed, topped with a thatched roof that has a single half-hipped end and raised brick coped tumbled gables. The cottage has two gable and one ridge brick stacks and is laid out in a T-plan. A dentillated gable band adds detail to the exterior.

The building is a single storey with attics and has an irregular four-bay side front, where the left-hand end bay is advanced and gabled. There is an off-centre half-glazed door that is sheltered by a 20th-century timber porch. To the right of the door are two plain casements under timber lintels, and to the left is a single two-light casement. The garden front consists of three bays with a brick plinth, featuring a central half-glazed door, a two-light casement to the right, and a three-light casement to the left. The roof includes three dormers, each with two-light casements and shallow segmental leaded heads.

Inside, the cottage has a deep chamfered beam in the garden range and a shallow chamfered beam with run-out stops in the rear range. Throughout the interior, there are 18th-century double panelled doors.
