Description
The Front Lodge is a gate lodge built around 1848, possibly designed by William Burn. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and is colourwashed. The slate roof features carved and figured scrolled bargeboards on curved wooden brackets, along with exposed rafters and a single red brick ridge stack. The building has a T-plan layout and is a single-storey structure with a two-bay side front. It includes a planked door set in a moulded ashlar surround, which is sheltered by a gabled porch supported on carved wooden brackets. To the left of the door is a rectangular oriel window, also on carved brackets, featuring glazing bar casements and a hipped lead roof. Above this window is a plain rectangular ashlar panel. On the road side, there is an additional three-light rectangular oriel window.
