Description
St Clements is a cottage that dates from the early 16th century and was modified in the 17th century, with further refacing and additions in the 18th and 19th centuries, and a 20th-century extension at the rear. The building is timber framed, with later facings and additions on the right made of flint with brick dressings, lacing courses, and plinths, while the left side is constructed of red brick featuring grey diaper work. It has a half hipped old tile roof, three gabled blank dormers with fish-scale tile hanging on the sides, and ridge cresting. There is an end stack to the right, a ridge stack off-centre to the left, and another stack behind the ridge off-centre to the right. The cottage has two framed bays, is two storeys tall with an attic, and features two first-floor three-light 19th-century segmental headed casements on the left and two two-light casements on the right. The ground floor has five two-light segmental headed casements and a boarded door with a 19th-century gabled porch situated between the first and second windows from the right. Inside, there are remains of one cruck truss and 17th-century wall paintings that include chevron ornament in the second ground floor room from the left.
