Description
The Old Stores is a house and shop, now functioning solely as a house. It dates from the late 16th century, with alterations around 1800 and further modifications in the mid-19th century. The left-hand block is constructed of red brick and features a dentil brick eaves cornice beneath an old tile hipped roof, which has an end stack to the left and an off-centre stack to the right at the rear. This block is two storeys high and has two glazing bar sash windows with exposed wooden boxes on each floor; the ground floor windows have segmental heads. There is a two-panelled door to the right.
The right-hand block is timber framed, with red brick refacing and additions, and has a gable facing the road. It is a single storey and features a large arched eight-light shop window with a blank tympanum above. To the right, there is a four-panelled doorway with a 19th-century lattice iron porch and a corrugated iron canopy. Inside, there are substantial remains of one timber framed bay in the right-hand block. The front of the property is bordered by 19th-century spear-head iron railings with urn finials on the standards.
