Description

White Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th century, with an addition from the 18th century and alterations from the 20th century. It is constructed of mud and stud, partially underbuilt in brick, and is painted. The cottage features a half hipped thatched roof with a decorative ridge and a single axial brick stack. It has a baffle entry and was originally designed with a two-unit plan. The building is single storey with attics and has a four-bay front, with the right-hand end bay being an addition.

The entrance consists of an off-centre planked door, flanked by a single two-light 20th-century casement window, and to the right, there is a three-light casement. The roof includes two through-eaves dormers with thatched eyebrows. Inside, there is a central smoke bay that is notably complete, featuring two studs with a stopped and chamfered bressumer. The sloping side walls have mid rails and are constructed of mud and stud. The main girder is deeply chamfered with a triangular stop, and the wall studs rest on padstones. The stairs are positioned beside the smoke bay and taper up towards the stack.
