Description
No. 6 Chancery Lane is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It features a timber frame, with parts that are roughcast-rendered and plastered, and has a pantiled roof. The building is designed in a 2-cell, end chimney style and has one and a half storeys. The front includes two cross windows without glazing bars, with one window having been renewed in the mid-20th century. There is a central doorway that has a broad architrave and cornice, leading to a six-panel door. The house also has two flat-roofed dormers, each with two-light windows. At the rear, facing Aspall Road, there is a single mid-20th century three-light window. A cement-rendered stack is located against the outside of the south gable end, and there is a lean-to brick addition on the north gable end. Inside, most of the timbers are concealed, but there is a newel stair, which is likely mostly original, and beneath it is an old slatted partition that encloses a larder.
