Description

Oak House is a house, originally two cottages, dating to the mid-to-late 17th century. It is timber-framed with roughcast render and a pantiled roof, arranged in a two-cell form. The house has two storeys and an attic. The upper floor has two two-light windows with small panes, with a mid-20th century standard casement inserted between them. The ground floor has two mid-20th century four-light casements with transoms. A lobby entry leads to a 16th-to-17th century plank door with a moulded face, which was brought from a nearby house. Inside, there is an internal stack with an axial shaft. The interior retains some plain first floor studding with straight bracing, and in one room, on-edge floor joists are exposed. The roof structure features stepped butt purlins and arched collars attached to the sides of the main trusses.
