Description

Hatherleigh Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with a front that was modified in the mid-19th century. The building has two storeys and attics in the main range. It is timber-framed with a rendered front and red brick sides, featuring dark headers on the north side, which faces the road. The roof is covered with old plaintiles, and the gables have fluted barge-boards, with a fluted board along the front of the eaves. The farmhouse has end chimney-stacks with slightly corbelled-out plain red brick shafts.

There are two sash windows on each storey, each with two vertical glazing-bars and heavy Tudor hood-moulds. A gabled dormer features plain barge-boards, a spike finial, and a two-light casement window. The central entrance has a hood-mould that matches those over the windows and includes a four-panelled half-glazed door, surrounded by flat pilasters, within a 20th-century boarded porch.

At the rear, there is a small rendered 1½-storey wing with a pantiled roof, an end chimney-stack, and a gabled dormer. Attached to the east end of this wing is a two-storey outbuilding constructed of random flint and old red brick, topped with a black-glazed pantiled roof and featuring slatted windows. The main house is oriented sideways to the road and has a large pond in front.
