Description

The barn at Moat Farm is an early 18th-century structure that is timber-framed and weatherboarded, topped with clay pantiles. It features full-height studding divided by straight primary braces and has four wide bays in its frame, with an additional main post in the center of each bay. The barn includes straight tie-beams to the trusses, which are supported by kneed and bolted braces. The roof is constructed with two rows of stepped butt-purlins and high collars, and each end bay has a single curved windbrace. The principal rafters are deep and narrow, and there is no ridge-piece. Assembly marks can be found on the collars and the associated principal rafters.
