Description

Moat House is a 17th-century house situated on the north side of Castle Street in Framlingham. It has a T-shaped layout, with a two-storey main range running east to west and a two-storey and attic cross-wing. The house is timber-framed with rendered walls incorporating ashlar lining. A 19th-century painted brick extension is located at the rear. The roof is covered in clay pantiles. The main range has a lobby entrance and an internal chimney stack with a rebuilt shaft of small Tudor bricks. The cross-wing has a gable-end stack facing the street. Both ranges feature small-paned sash windows in flush frames, with three hipped dormers containing two-light casement windows on the cross-wing. The entrance door has six raised fielded panels, with the top two panels glazed, along with panelled linings, a fluted architrave, pilasters, and an entablature.
