Description
No. 28 Castle Street is a house dating from the early to mid 19th century. It has two storeys and attics, constructed of colour-washed brick with pantiled roofs. The early 19th-century cross-wing is rendered and features a single sash window in deep reveals on each floor. The upper two windows have intersecting glazing bars and pointed heads to their surrounds. The attic window has a keystone depicting a large bearded face with a protruding tongue, while the first-floor window has a keystone with a smaller head. There is a plain sash window on the ground floor.
The main range of the house has a projecting gable at the front of the roof and includes sash windows with a single vertical bar to the lights, set in deep reveals with gauged heads. The entrance door is located in a single-storey lean-to addition on the side of the cross-wing. This door features four sunk panels with applied mouldings, flanked by narrow matching panels, and has plain jambs and a surround that is chamfered and stopped. Above the door is a rectangular fanlight with small side-lights.
