Description

Woodseaves Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century, mid-19th century, and mid-20th century. It is timber-framed, featuring painted brick and rendered infill on a rubble base, with some sections of rubble replacement walling and machine-tiled roofs topped with a brick ridge stack. The building is arranged in an L-plan, with the main range consisting of three framed bays aligned north-east to south-west. At the south-west end, there is a 20th-century external brick chimney. A single-bay wing, probably added in the 18th century, adjoins the north-west side of the north-east bay. The farmhouse is partly two storeys, partly single storey, and has an attic with dormers.

The framing of the main range includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, some solid upper corner braces, and a collar and tie-beam truss with two struts at the north-east end. The wing features four rows of panels from the sill to the wall-plate, long straight braces across the lower corners of the first floor, and a similar type of truss with additional struts linked by a rail above the collar.

On the north-west front elevation, the windows are mainly 20th-century casements, with plank weatherings on both the ground floor and the first floor of the wing. The main part has two ground floor three-light windows and two gabled dormers, one containing a two-light window and the other a three-light window. The gable end of the wing has a three-light ground floor window and a four-light first floor window. The main entrance, located to the right, features a gabled balustered timber porch and a half-glazed 20th-century door with a transom light above. There is a rubble lean-to outshut at the angle, which includes a two-light casement on the north-west side. Additionally, there is a timber-framed hipped-roofed outshut at the south-west gable end of the main range, featuring a two-light window in its front elevation, and a lean-to on the north-east side of the wing with a double doorway on its north-west side.
