Description
St Mary's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century, late 19th century, and late 20th century. The building features part timber framing with some painted brick infill on a rubble base, and is largely rendered with sections of painted rubble. It has machine tiled roofs and a brick stack at the north-east end of the main ridge. The structure consists of two framed bays aligned north-east to south-west, with an external rubble chimney and a brick stack at the south-west end, as well as a single-bay wing attached to the rear on the south-east side. The farmhouse is two storeys high.
The visible framing is primarily on the wing, which has two rows of square panels at the first floor level and tie-beam trusses with struts. The north-west front elevation features two 3-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, complete with transoms and plank weatherings on the ground floor. The central entrance is highlighted by a gabled timber porch built on a brick base, leading to a glazed 20th-century door. At the rear, there is a continuous lean-to outshut with a catslide roof. Inside, some framing is exposed, and there are chamfered main ceiling beams along with a large fireplace located in the north-east bay.
