Description
White Oak Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill set on a rubble base, topped with a concrete-tiled roof. The structure consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, and there is an external rubble chimney with a brick stack and a circular bread oven attached to the north side of the west bay. The cottage is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces across the lower outer corners of the upper panels, and a collar and tie-beam truss with struts. On the south front elevation, the windows are all 12-light casements with plank weatherings on the ground floor. There are three ground floor windows, a stair window at eaves level, and a gabled dormer. The main entrance, located to the right, features a gabled 19th-century timber porch with a latticed two-light window on its right side and a ledged and battened door. Additionally, there is a 20th-century lean-to outshut at the rear of the east bay.
