Description

The Old Reading Room is a former parish reading room that has been converted into a shop. It was built in 1858 and features red brick construction with rusticated painted stone quoins and window and door surrounds. The roof is slated and adorned with crest tiles. The building is one and a half storeys tall, with a one-storey parapeted wing on the left side.

The main block has two windows, which are heavy ovolo-moulded four-light mullion and transom stone casements that reflect a 16th to 17th-century style. Above these windows, there are cornices created by four oversailing courses of brickwork. To the left, there is an additional window in a similar style, but made of wood, along with a doorway featuring a moulded semi-circular arch and mid-20th-century doors. The gable ends of the parapet are also notable features of the building.
