Description
Number 40 (Wrentham Antiques), Number 42 (Barclays Bank), and Number 44 are a shop and bank with a maisonette, built in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of pale yellow brick and has a roof covered with mid-20th century slates. It has two storeys and features a symmetrical three-bay facade, with the bays separated by paired brick pilasters. The outer and inner pilasters are slightly set forward, and the outer ones extend above the eaves as short pedestals topped with stone urns. The building has inset sash windows with glazing bars and flat lintels, including a three-light window in the center. The original double-bay shopfront remains unaltered, showcasing large panes with semi-circular arched heads that are splayed to a recessed central doorway. The doors are three-quarter glazed and match the style of the shopfront, with a rectangular panel above and a modillion cornice. There are gable end stacks, and the left-hand gable end is pilastered with a brick band at the eaves level.
