Description

Three houses at 1, 3, and 5 High Street date from the 18th and 19th centuries, with significant alterations made in the mid-20th century. The houses are constructed of brick, with number 3 colourwashed and the others stuccoed. The Chapel Street facade is lined to imitate ashlar. The roofs are covered with black pantiles, some of which are glazed. The houses are two storeys high, with an attic to number 1.

Fenestration along High Street includes sashes to number 3 and large-paned casements to number 5. Numbers 3 and 5 have early 19th-century shop fronts, originally matching in design. Each has semi-circular pilasters with horizontal ring ornament, corner roundels at the doorway, a frieze with both reeding and fluting, and a modillion cornice. Number 3 retains a small-paned shop window and half-glazed door, while number 5 has been altered with a mid-20th century shop window and doorway.

Number 1 faces Chapel Street, with three windows arranged as sashes with glazing bars in flush frames and moulded architraves. The ground floor windows are mid-20th century casements. A mid-20th century porch with French windows is present. There are also two gabled dormers.

A single-storey shop from the mid-19th century projects forward to the left. It features three-centre arched lights, pilasters, a fascia, a cornice on console brackets. The group value context is that these houses contribute significantly to the architectural character and appearance of the High Street in Wrentham.
