Description
The Spread Eagle Hotel is a former coaching inn that has been converted into a hotel. The front section dates back to the 18th century, with 19th-century additions and alterations. It features colourwashed brick with a moulded brick eaves cornice and a hipped roof covered in glazed black pantiles. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a four-bay facade.
The left side of the facade showcases the earlier block, which is symmetrical and includes narrow inset sash windows on the first floor and tripartite sash windows on the ground floor, all adorned with flat brick arches. The entrance features a four-panel door with a rectangular fanlight and sidelights. To the right is a one-bay early 19th-century addition that matches the tripartite sash windows.
On the far right is a slightly lower entrance addition, which includes a four-panel door with glazed upper panels, a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, and a moulded arch surround with a raised key. The shaped parapet gable is topped with a stone eagle. Behind the 18th-century block is a range that has a tall ogee gable, which appears to be a later addition.
